Gettysburg

I went to hear a reading by celebrated poet Mary Oliver. This is my very first poem, I scratched it out in 10 minutes the next day. Here ya go..........

Hallowed Ground
60 thousand passed under one sun
A darkness that will never see light

Listen to their souls men
They killed my brother with malice in their hearts
A green field painted red

Struggle Survival
Victory Defeat
A Crows Sanctuary

A woman cries into an empty pillow
In the back porch a boy looks at a mans shoes
A house divided by infinite loss

They fought the same fight we're fighting today
If we don't take a lesson from the dead
We too will be destroyed
